Narration Conducive To Books Morningstar (Ciclo Drenai (chronological order) #2)

Morning star, David Gemmell
The Angostin hordes raged over the Southern Borders. Evil sorcery ruled, and the vampyre kings lived once more. The Highland people were in much need of a great hero. Jarek Mace needed nothing and no one—not even that bard Owen Odell, with whom he now traveled. But when Mace harassed the Angostins for his own purposes, he inadvertently aided the Highland people. And now he was being hailed as a hero, a legend, the great Morningstar returned.
But Owen Odell knew the real man behind the people's tales. Mace was an outlaw, a bandit, a heartless thief. He was no savior of the people. He was no legend. Or was he?

Judge Of Books Morningstar (Ciclo Drenai (chronological order) #2)
Its David Gemmell so we all know what we are going to get.Nuanced Characters - CheckComplex but well plotted story - CheckWell realised dialogue - CheckFlawed and human hero - Check. So far so good. I was thoroughly entertained by this book and as ever liked the way the story was told in the book. On occasion you will get tales that follow the same person for a while but these are not books where the author forces you to follow them over a series of episodes. I do not mind that style but this

Good, solid, gifted writing.Lately, I have been going for the Kindle deals and reading many self-published or near-self-published books--a form of reader's Russian roulette. This book reminded me of what a pleasure it is to read a genuinely good book by an experienced, accomplished author. It reminded me of how good it is to move along that smooth, well-crafted road without the cracks, bumps, and potholes of many of the bargain books.Maybe I should reexamine the dilemma all of us face: what to

4.5 stars rounded up to 5 stars

4.5 stars.A little predictable in spots, but a good tale with some fairly original elements to me. Cool to see Gemmell stretch himself with a first person narrative as well.

8/10Among the books David Gemmell wrote in his career many of them feature heroes born to become great, and others, as in this case, anti-heroes raised in the cruelty of the world. This book nevertheless manages to stand out on its own unique way. A book so exhilarating and refreshing at the same time as none of Gemmells other books as it is written, for the first and last time, in the first person following the adventures of the legendary Morningstar through the eyes of, the young then, Owen

As a massive fan of David Gemmell, I snapped this book up, hoping as ever that it was an undiscovered gem. Sadly, it wasnt. Its a book that sees the author working on autopilot, taking familiar themes and a familiar, well-worn storyline and crafting a tale that is pacy and exciting but simply lacking that extra spark that made other books from the author shine. Thats not to say its a bad book; Gemmell at his most average is still miles better than many other fantasy writers, and this book has

Ok not a work of literacy genius however when it comes to heroic fantasy there are non finer than Mr Gemmell. This book is uplifting and righteous but has that sense of the fallibility of man.
