This, for me, is the real pivot of the series, where Watanuki finally steps forward all of the way into the new self he has been making. He goes to rescue the ame-warashi and offers the spider absolutely anything in exchange -- and she treats his offer as it deserves, telling him off for valuing himself so little and asking why he thinks his sacrifice would be meaningful when he considers himself garbage. I was pleased by that, both personally and for the shape of the story, that we have seenSomething felt off about this installment. On my notes I wrote that the artwork is a bit different and was questioning whether this was the same group that did the previous volumes. I didn't bother to check so we can go with - same group, Victor's just seeing things.I enjoy the series and the dynamic between all the players but I feel that this is getting a little formulaic. Overall Rating: A-Synopsis: xxxHolic by Clamp follows Watanuki, an orphan who is plagued by spirits. While being chased by spirits, Watanuki runs into a strange shop and meets a strange woman named Yūko. She turns out to be a powerful witch, and makes a deal with Watanuki to help him remove his "curse" in exchange for working in her shop and cooking for her. CLAMP!!! Why are you so mean to Watanuki??? Several CLAMP stories have people loosing their eyes, Kimihiro Watanuki didn't escape. I love this story so much, I can't recommend it enough. Watanuki is still a lovable spaz, but he's really maturing.
I really wish I weren't so far behind in my review writing especially when it comes to such a tightly wound plot as the xxxHolic series by CLAMP. This volume was just OK to me. I mean, I don't know what else to say...
Watanukis lost eye attracts some sinster interest from supernatural denizens of the occult world. The Zashiki-Warashi gets captured by one of those denizens, trying to get Watanukis eye back. Its up to Watanuki and the pipe fox spirit, using the tools provided by Yuko and the Tengu to rescue the Zashiki-Warashi, while its up to Dômeki to do something about Watanukis lost eye. One of the most interesting characters yet appeared in this volume, offering truths unacceptable to most people. The
